UHD Superhard Cutting Tools
UHD integral brazed CBN inserts are designed for hard turning and high-load batch machining where cutting stability, tool-edge utilization and controlled tool consumption are important production considerations.
Manufacturers working with cast iron, hardened steel and other demanding workpiece materials often need more than basic cutting capability. Welding reliability, cutting-edge availability, machine compatibility and predictable tool consumption all affect batch production performance.
The UHD integral brazed CBN insert uses a double-sided vacuum-welded structure to join the CBN cutting material with a carbide substrate. This design is intended to support stable cutting in continuous and light interrupted operations while helping users make better use of each insert and manage tool consumption more consistently.
The CBN cutting material and carbide substrate are joined through a vacuum-welding process designed to improve structural stability under high-temperature and high-load cutting conditions.
Both sides of the insert can be used, increasing available cutting edges and supporting more controlled changeover frequency, inventory use and cost per machined part.
The carbide substrate provides a toughness base for applications involving relatively high cutting loads, including efficiency-oriented roughing and semi-finishing within suitable operating conditions.
The insert can be used with common standard toolholders and ordinary CNC or hard-turning machines, helping manufacturers evaluate the solution within existing tooling systems.
UHD integral brazed CBN inserts are intended for hard turning and batch machining of the following workpiece materials and components:
The appropriate grade depends on the workpiece material, cutting method, cutting load and production objective. The following grades are available for different machining priorities:
| Grade | Primary Characteristics | Typical Workpiece Materials | Machining | Industries |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| USN100 | High wear resistance and impact resistance | Alloy cast iron, gray cast iron and ductile iron | Roughing and semi-finishing | Automotive components, air-conditioning compressors and bearings |
| USN200 | High wear resistance and heat resistance | Alloy cast iron, gray cast iron and ductile iron | Semi-finishing and finishing | Automotive components and engineering machinery |
| USN650 | High wear resistance and impact resistance | Hardened bearing steel, die steel and tool steel | Semi-finishing or finishing | Gears, crankshafts, wind power equipment and engineering machinery |
This insert is not intended for every material or machining method.
The product is not recommended for aluminum alloys, copper alloys, 304/316 austenitic stainless steel, low-carbon soft steel, high-precision small-hole boring or ultra-finishing applications. These conditions require cutting materials, edge designs or machining mechanisms that are more closely matched to the application.
Before choosing a grade or specification, evaluate the following factors:
The insert can be applied on standard CNC lathes and hard-turning machines with suitable rigidity. For common batch-production equipment, it provides a practical starting point for process evaluation. Special conditions—including strong interrupted cutting, complex clamping arrangements or extreme cutting parameters—should be reviewed against the workpiece and machine setup before use.
As an integrated manufacturer and supplier of superhard cutting tools, UHD (Henan UHD Ultrahard Tools Co., Ltd.) combines CBN and diamond material expertise, digital production systems, precision inspection and application support. For B2B customers, product selection can be discussed around the workpiece material, insert geometry, machine conditions and batch-production requirements rather than treated as a one-size-fits-all substitution.
For a suitable insert recommendation, provide the workpiece material and hardness, component type, machining operation, machine information and current cutting conditions. UHD can then help assess the appropriate CBN grade, insert specification and application fit.
